Meet The Creators of BeepBoopBeep Clothing Co.

Welcome to the first episode of my Disney Instagram Interview Series!

I recently had a chance to sit down with the creators behind the Star Wars/Disney mashup brand, Beep Boop Beep Clothing Co. 

Jessica and her husband Garrett conceived Beep Boop Beep as a creative outlet to show their love of both the Star Wars films and Disney Parks . The screen printing shop is run out of their southern California home where they strive to give hardcore fans something a little different than the typical Star Wars merchandise you might find from a traditional retailer.

We also chatted about our mutual love of Disney, their success on Instagram and I even got to meet their sweet girl, Amelia! Take a look at our interview below, and catch some exclusive info on how to get into their presale for new summer designs!

Ever After Report: You both are the creators of Beep Boop Beep Clothing, Co. Tell me your story and how this business came about.

Beep Boop Beep: My husband and I created the business because my husband is very passionate about graphic design, and that’s what he went to school for. We love Star Wars, and are always fans of Geek themed or Disney themed shirts. So that my husband could have a creative outlet, and so I could have a stay-at-home job being a new mom, I presented the idea of making shirts inspired by our fandom!

 

EAR: How did your love of Disney and Star Wars begin?

BBB: Just by growing up with these movies as children. And for me (Jessica) in particular, I grew up in Anaheim so Disneyland has always been a big part of my life. My happiest memories are either at the park, or watching Disney movies with my family. Garrett grew up watching Star Wars, and being obsessed with it! He introduced it to me when we started dating, I had never seen it before! But I quickly became hooked.

EAR: What about Disney and/or Star Wars important to you?

BBB: The presistent belief that anyone can achieve their dreams, that good always triumphs over evil. We are sappy and love to always believe in happily ever afters, even after the hardest of life events.

EAR: Were you a Star Wars fan before you were a Disney fan?

BBB: No, Disney first!

EAR: What were your thoughts when Disney acquired Star Wars?

BBB: We were really excited, as we had a feeling this would mean more Star Wars films! Something We didn’t think would happen.

EAR: What is your favorite part of your business? 

BBB: Getting to have a creative outlet my husband and I can have together. I really love working hard alongside him.

EAR: What is the greatest challenge behind your business? For example, the process, marketing, pricing, etc.?

BBB: Making the shirts! We print them from our home and takes up the most time, and is a lot of manual labor! Despite it being the biggest challenge I still am so happy to do it, I know it’s doing great things for us and will end with a happy customer!

EAR: What is one thing you want people to know about Beep Boop Beep Clothing?

BBB: So much love is poured into each design, and each shirt we make and send out. We are small but work hard, so each sale truly means so much to us.

EAR: Which t-shirt design is your favorite?

BBB: Happiest Rey on Earth. Garretts is the Dapper Trooper.

EAR: How did you decide on your name?

BBB: We wanted to come up with a name that hinted to our theme, but wasn’t super obvious and was also kind of cute. I came up with the name because my text tone is R2’s boops. What’s cuter than a droid?

EAR: Describe your business in three words.

BBB: Creative, caring, and hardworking

EAR: Disneyland or Walt Disney World? Why?

BBB: This is tough! I guess Disneyland because I have some of my dearest life memories there. But honestly, Disney World I think is more fun to visit long term since it’s so big! But Disneyland is a part of my life story.

EAR: Dark Side or Light Side?

BBB: Light! We love fairy tales, happily ever afters, and Luke Skywalker.

EAR: What is the most influential or important aspect to you about your community on Instagram?

BBB: How loyal fans are in the Instagram community, and how kind fellow shops are. Not only do you get to easily see feedback on designs from customers via comments and likes, but you can see everyone wearing and sharing about your shirts as well. Fellow shops are so supportive and kind. It’s amazing that Instagram is so big yet it feels so intimate.

EAR: How do you come up with your designs?

BBB: Sometimes we randomly think of an idea, sometimes we have to sit and brainstorm around a particular theme (I.e. Disney parks, summer, etc) or character. Most are brainstormed depending on season and what we’ve gotten requests for. We have a brainstorming session once a month and plan out our new desifns for the next month. One of our most popular tees, “Rebel Girl” was randomly thought up.

EAR: Do you think your t-shirts enhance a trip to Disney World/Disneyland?

BBB: I think so! We see many families wearing these coordinating shirts at the parks, which I love. I think people get excited to wear at the parks because they aren’t very generic designs, they’re unique, and I think people like being able to wear a fun mash up tee and get stopped to ask where they got their shirt since it’s not one you see in stores everywhere.

EAR: What are your plans for the future of Beep Boop Beep Clothing?

BBB: Our site is currently closed, and will be opening back In a week or so with a new format. We used to offer all our designs made to order on a continuing basis, with a 7 business day turnaround. Often people want our shirts right away for a trip or something, and wanted to be able to get shirts to people faster. We also wanted to be able to have more time do make more new designs for each month. Once we open back up, we will offer 5-6 designs a month, all already pre-printed (which means set quantities too). This way they will be ready to ship right away, with more predictable turnaround time, and will mean more Time we can pour into having more new monthly designs. In this new format, we will have some new designs and some old designs rotate each month. This will make things more organized for us, and I think happier customers as they can expect faster shirts and a overall more new designs from us.

EAR: Do you have a specific Disney and/or Star Wars memory that is your favorite?

BBB: Mine is me, Garrett, and our daughter wearing coordinating “Return of the Jedi” costumes last Halloween. I made the costumes myself, and it was my daughters first Halloween, it was very special to me! I think for Garrett it would be seeing Force Awakens in theatres opening day. We made a whole date night out of it, and it was the first Star Wars film we got to see in theatres together. It was nice to experience the film for the first time together.

EAR:  What is the most rewarding aspect of your business?

BBB: Seeing people post pictures of themselves wearing our shirts–it makes me happy that people are excited about how they look and feel in our shirts, and I love when I hear how excited people are being able to find such a wide variety of shirt designs for women and children. We love being able to provide for a wide market that doesn’t always necessarily have a lot of geek chic options. I love seeing families coordinating in our shirts; that’s an incredibly special thing to have made a design that a family felt was specia enough to all wear together on a Disney trip. It feels so good to know people love our creative efforts!

EAR: Favorite Disney ride?

BBB: Garrett’s is Star Tours (of course!), and mine is Radiator Springs Racers

EAR: Favorite Star Wars character?

BBB: Luke Skywalker! For both of us.

EAR: What did you think of The Force Awakens?

BBB: We absolutely loved it. I loved the heavy use of practical effects, and the character Rey. I enjoyed how many nods to the original trilogy there was, and loved the epic cliffhanger at the end. Luke is both of our favorite character, so we are excited for lots of Luke in Episode VIII.

EAR: Do you travel to Disney Parks often?

BBB: Yes! We have Disneyland annual passes and go about once a week. We went to Walt Disney World for our honeymoon, and would love to go again in the next few years.

EAR: Anything else you want to get off your chest?

BBB: Nothing comes to mind!
