Welcome to 2016! It’s a new year and lots of newsworthy stuff is happening at and around the Disney Parks. Let’s look at this month’s bulletin for January 2016 News!
Shanghai Disneyland Opening Date Announced
Shanghai Disneyland may be one of the biggest park announcements ever made. Concept art revealed the park’s full potential at last year’s D-23 Expo, and Disney just announced the official opening day will be June 16, 2016.
Shanghai Disneyland will feature six different themed lands, innovative attractions, and entertainment experiences designed specifically for Chinese guests. Get ready to set foot in Shanghai Disneyland to experience Adventure Isle, Gardens of Imagination, Mickey Avenue, Tomorrowland, Treasure Cove, and Fantasyland.
The park includes rides based on classic Disney attractions as Fantasia Carousel, Buzz Lightyear Planet Rescue, Seven Dwarfs’ Mine Train, and Roaring Rapids (similar to Kali River Rapids in Animal Kingdom and Grizzly River Rapids in Disney California Adventure). Also set to open will be an all new TRON themed roller coaster in Tomorrowland, aptly named the TRON Lightcycle Power Run.
The highlight of the park, however may be the Enchanted Storybook Castle themed around all the Disney princesses. The castle serves as a centerpiece to the park and will have a ride, restaurant, and show nestle inside. Get your passports ready and find out more about the Enchanted Storybook Castle here.
Steakhouse 55 Tea Packages
Earlier this month, Disney announced that beginning January 22nd, afternoon tea will be served from noon to 3 p.m. at Steakhouse 55 in Disneyland Resort. Packages include the Classic Tea Party, the Premium Tea Party and the Kids’ Tea Party.
The Classic Tea Party starts at $50/person and offers a traditional English high tea complete with scones, tea sandwiches, desserts, and your choice of specialty teas including Twinings tea, herbal, and loose-leaf teas.
The Premium Tea Party starts at $65/person and includes all the traditional fare of the classic tea, but adds a salad, luxurious sparkling wine, and a Farewell truffle to complete the experience.
The Kids’ Tea Party starts at $35/person and is suited towards a kids’ pallette. Your little ones can get the same scones, sandwiches and dessert from the Classic Tea, but they have their choice of tea, milk, or hot chocolate to pair with their tea party treats.
Vegan and gluten-free options are also be available. If you’re interested in this awesome tea experience, call (714) 781-DINE or visit Disneyland.com, to make a reservation for your next trip!
Kylo Ren To Come to Disney Parks
The dark warrior of the First Order is coming to Star Wars Launch Bay in both Disneyland and Disney’s Hollywood Studios! Along with other Star Wars experiences including, Star Tours: The Adventures Continue, and “Jedi Training: Trials of the Temple” the Launch Bay is home to multiple Star Wars characters including Chewbacca, Stormtroopers, and now come see Ren and his Star Destroyer next month!
Closures at Hollywood Studios
It’s no secret that Hollywood Studios is going through a major change. The new Toy Story Land will bring Andy’s backyard to life, and shrink guests to the size of one of his toys, while the highly anticipated Star Wars Land will transport guests to an entirely different, never-before-seen planet within the Star Wars universe where they can meet and mingle with various character of the galaxy. Both lands are slated to open in 2018, but that means some serious renovations, changes and closure have to first take place.
Opening in 2005, the long-time Hollywood Studios staple Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show is based on the Moteurs… Action! Stunt Show Spectacular that opened in Walt Disney Studios Park in Disneyland Paris in 2002. There are still a few months left to see the show, but Disney just announced that it will close on April 2, 2016.
